EELV now National Security Space

The US Air Force on Friday changed the name of Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program (EELV) to National Security Space Launch program (NSSL)

The now NSSL which began in 1994 is a launch system program of the United States Air Force (USAF) to assure access to space for Department of Defense and other United States government payloads. It was created with the aim of making government space launches more affordable and of better quality has since produced positive results which resulted in the development of the Delta IV, Atlas V and Falcon 9 rockets which are surely among the best and most reliable in the world. The NSSL program is expected to run till 2030

The US Air Force followed the directive by Congress to rename the program claiming that it better reflects the changing technology that has since been experienced since the advent of EELV noting the switch to reusable rockets in particular
